Obtaining a College Degree Online

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010
S. Michael Windsor asked:

Obtaining a College Degree Online

When considering obtaining a college degree online, there are many things that will be quite different than that of taking classes inside a classroom on campus and more. However, the differences in many cases are quite beneficial to individuals in many different circumstances. In this article, we will briefly look over mainly the benefits of online college degrees so you can decide for yourself if getting an online degree would be the right path for you.

There are many advantages to online degrees versus taking the college level course on campus such as the matter of convenience alone. There is no driving to and from campus as your studies are done from home or wherever you prefer to study. In addition, individuals can obtain their own college degree in the same time that college students on campus do, if not a little quicker, in some cases. All of the same curriculum and types of degrees are normally offered by most colleges with courses online.

One of the downfalls with the situation of not physically having the instructor present during class time is the lack of face to face time with the person putting the course together for you. This may prove to be a bit difficult for the student studying online in subjects such as math in which many students need an instructor to observe while performing the necessary tasks in formulating equations and such. Many of the instructors are available online for students and they may even soon have some sort of video for demonstrating these types of tasks. This is just one thing to keep in mind when comparing online college degrees and on-campus college degrees.

Time can be a major factor for many people. If you have two jobs and a child, it may be very difficult to get into class every day at 8am sharp in order to avoid getting points deducted for not showing up to class on time which many instructors tend to do. In fact, some instructors simply lock the door and do not let late students inside the classroom once class has begun. This does not occur when considering online college degrees as there is no classroom and the STUDENT sets their own schedule. Not only do you avoid class schedules, but you also avoid the parking lot fees and traffic every day.

Overall , getting a degree online can be very beneficial to many people with individual needs and with time restraints. If you are looking for a college course online with an accredited instructor, you will find that many colleges offer this now. In addition to having good instructors now teaching courses online, many of the colleges offering online degrees also help with the financial aspects of getting your degree online. In many cases, the college offering the online degrees will have a financial aid department which you may contact in order to obtain more information about funding your online education.

If scheduling restraints or the need to study at home are part of your individual needs, then maybe try looking into how studying online can help you progress towards achieving your college education online. Each day more and more advancements are achieved online through major accredited colleges and many universities are going online daily. This way everyone has the opportunity to get their college degree as the online college degree world has thrown open the doors to helping those with their individual college needs while providing educational opportunities for everyone.

Masters Degree Online - Too Good to be True?

Saturday, March 13th, 2010
Phil Rogers asked:

If one wants to advance in their career a higher education is needed. A Masters Degree is one way that you can do this. Attaining this degree nowadays is easier than before. There are many online Masters Degrees that are offered. You can climb up the ladder in your career by having the chance to earn this college degree.

Obtaining an online Masters degree can give you a step up in the world: naturally, it will increase your eligibility in the working world, qualify you for increased pay, and provide you with unlimited potential to advance your career. A Masters degree is an excellent choice for anyone currently considering changing careers, looking forward to a promotion, or advancing towards a new job. Many online colleges are available that can meet your needs, offering wide ranges of programs allowing you to study part-time. Online colleges can provide you with an adaptable, simple way to earn your degree as a part of your busy schedule.

Eliminating the travel to and from school is another major advantage of studying for your Masters on the Internet. Since you will be taking your courses at your own computer, it won’t matter where your college is located. This way, there will be more schools you can consider getting your degree from. You’ll also find the day to day routine easier, especially if you are somewhat older than most graduate students. You won’t feel pressured to keep up with your classmates, which can be very stressful. Obviously, if you work at a full time job or have a family, it will be much easier to arrange your hours to fit if you study online.

Regardless of what program you are interested in to continue your education, it’s probably offered via the internet. You have to choose from such as Psychology, Law, Paralegal, Criminal Justice, Nursing, MBA, Counseling and Leadership, just to name a few. Nearly every university and college that is accredited offer degrees programs that are available online. Some colleges only offer online degrees.

Your budget leaps to mind when you consider attending college, since it costs a lot more to get an advanced degree than an undergraduate degree. But financial aid is available if you would like to study for your Masters on the internet. Possibilities include loans, grants, and scholarships. It’s even possible you might be eligible for tuition assistance at your job. It goes without saying that you must meet certain requirements when you apply for financial aid.

Some people think that a person does not gain complete experience if he receives the degree online when compared to studying at a normal college or at an University. Normally this is untrue as the person gets the same chance that the University provides like independent study, though he may not get full college experience. In comparison to a traditional college, getting a Masters Degree online has more benefits as it increases the person’s knowledge of the internet and time management skills. A person has to choose if he requires an easier way to earn money and improve his career or earn Masters Degree online.

Business Degree Online Students Can Find Financial Help

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
Andy West asked:

Those who have experienced the fast paced business world understand one thing - the more education you have, the easier it is to move up the corporate ladder. Though it might not make much sense on the surface and there really might not be a practical explanation for it, the fact remains that people with advanced business degrees tend to get the promotions and the higher paying positions. The problem with this is that getting a graduate business degree isn’t the easiest thing in the world. In fact, there are many times when money and time are the chief requirement for getting such a degree. These days, there are many more opportunities available for working people who want another degree. Getting a business degree online is one of those options.

If you are a working person and you need a graduate business degree, but you don’t have the money, then there are plenty of options out there for you. In this day and age of ultra-competitive business, companies want to stay on top of the ranking and on top of their industry. In order to do that, they have to make sure that they keep plenty of employees on staff that have obtained those coveted degrees. This has become such an issue that many companies will even pay for their employees to head back to school in order to get a business degree. This can take a major load off of the shoulders of a working adult, especially if that person has other responsibilities to take care of with their paycheck.

How does one go about getting their hands on some of these opportunities? In short, they have to be willing to go to the head of their company and make a case for themselves. Employees shouldn’t expect their boss to just come in and start casually throwing around money for college. Most corporate budgets have this expense listed at the beginning of the year, so the funds are there. Employees must know how to work the system to get what they deserve.

Another concern that many working professionals have is the issue of time. When working a difficult and demanding corporate job, when does a person have time to go back to college? The truth is that it isn’t possible to go back to college in the traditional sense. A better option is getting a business degree online from a well-respected institution. Online programs like this are geared to fit the schedule of the working person. There are no set class times that one must fill. Instead, the workload is given to the student and it is up to the student to determine when they can complete the work. This kind of flexibility makes working and attending school at the same time a distinct possibility.

If you are a working professional who just can’t seem to get ahead in the corporate world, it might be time to think about what is holding you back. You have the experience and you have the know how to get the job done. The only area where you might lack is in the education department. If your company is going to pay for you to head back to school and get that degree, you might as well take them up on the offer. After all, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could end up helping you make the most out of a career that was previously stuck in neutral.

Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Earn a Bachelors Degree Online

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
Mary Jackson asked:

Online degree programs have grown in popularity over the years for many reasons that include the creation of accredited online colleges, traditional colleges and universities offering online courses, and increased interest by those already in the workforce who want to further their careers by earning a degree while they work.

According to the Postsecondary Education Factbook 2006, published yearly by education consulting and marketing firm Edventures, in 2006 over $10 billion dollars was spent in online education by those pursuing a degree. This is an increase from $2.5 billion spent in 2004. But why are online degree programs so popular and why should you consider enrolling in one when going back to school?

Save Time by Taking Courses Online

For many students, returning to school to earn a bachelors degree means taking time off from work, spending less time with family, and being around younger students. It’s these factors that deter some students from returning to school.

But by enrolling in an online degree program, students will be able to take courses from home without having to spend time driving to the college or university, paying for childcare or sitting in a classroom filled with learners they may not have anything in common with. With a bachelor degree online, students can still pursue their educational goals without disturbing their lives in the process.

Online bachelor degree programs often involve listening to lectures, reading lecture notes from instructors or participating in live chat with other students and instructors. Students will still be responsible for turning in all assignments and tests like traditional students, but they will not have to spend as much time in the classroom.

Convenience of Online Courses

If you want to continue working while earning a bachelors degree, earning your degree online is more convenient than traditional classroom courses in several ways. First, you have the ability to only take as many courses as you can handle each semester. Second, since you won’t have to spend time in a classroom, you will have more time to study or focus on other areas in your life. Third, you will be given a syllabus at the beginning of each course that outlines how the course will be taught. This will include due dates for all assignments, tests and projects so you can budget your time.

Online Education Costs Lower

Depending on the program you enroll in, earning an online bachelor degree may cost less than attending a traditional university program. Online colleges have lower overhead because they don’t provide housing or classroom space and do not support extra-curricular activities such as sports, music or theater programs. When you enroll in an online degree program, the cost of tuition, additional supplies or materials, and fees for IT support are usually all you will be required to pay.

Greater Acceptance of Online Degree Programs

According to the report, Making the Grade: Online Education in the United States, 2006, published by The Sloan Consortium, in 2003, only 57% of academic leaders thought students who earned their degree online received the same or better education than those attending traditional programs. By 2006, that number rose to 62%. This means that online education programs are becoming more accepted by educators and employers as each year passes.

Career Advancement

Earning an online BS degree can help your career in many ways. Not only will you be qualified for career advancement, many employers reward those who take the initiative to further their education, with bonuses and higher pay.

Online bachelor degrees are available in many fields. Through careful research, you can find an online program that suits your needs.
